Note the sentences given below:-

No other means of transport is as fast as the aeroplane. (positive)
The aeroplane is faster than all the other means of transport. (comparative)
The aeroplane is the fastest means of transport. (superlative)

In the above sentences, you will see that the degree of adjectives (fast/faster/fastest) are different. But the meaning remains the same.
