The Past Perfect Tense

Uncle Peng had arrived yesterday.

In the above sentence, had arrived refers to an action that was completed before. (In the past). These verbs are said to be in the Past Perfect Tense.
For the formation of the past perfect tense we do the following: -
Past tense form of the verb has/have
+
The past participle of the verb.
In the above sentence, it is 'had + arrived'.

Note: - when we have to describe two or more actions in the past in a sentence, we use the past perfect tense to describe the action, which happened first.
E.g. when I reached there, the bus had left already.
In the above sentence the bus had left before I reached there.
